چکیده

We present new HCN and HCO + ( J = 3–2) images of the nearby star-forming galaxies (SFGs) NGC 3351, 3627, 4321. The observations, obtained with Morita ALMA Compact Array, have a spatial resolution ∼290–440 pc resolve inner R gal ≲ 0.6–1 kpc targets, as well southern bar end 3627. complement this data set publicly available lower excitation lines HCN, , CO analyse behaviour representative line ratios: HCN(3–2)/HCN(1–0), HCN(3–2)/HCO (3–2), HCN(1–0)/CO(2–1), HCN(3–2)/CO(2–1). Most these ratios peak at galaxy centres decrease outwards. compare observations grid one-phase, non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (non-LTE) radiative transfer models find them compatible that predict subthermally excited optically thick lines. study systematic variations across targets function stellar surface density (Σ star ), intensity-weighted CO(2–1) (⟨ I ⟩), formation rate SFR ). no apparent correlation Σ but positive correlations other two parameters, which are stronger in case ⟨ ⟩. HCN/CO–⟨ ⟩ relations show ≲0.3 dex galaxy-to-galaxy offsets, HCN(3–2)/CO(2–1)–⟨ being ∼2 times steeper than HCN(1–0)/CO(2–1). In contrast, HCN(3–2)/HCN(1–0)–⟨ relation exhibits tighter alignment between galaxies. conclude overall cannot be ascribed to single parameter (e.g., or temperature).

The Kiloparsec-scale Kinematics of High-redshift Star-forming Galaxies

We present the results of a spectroscopic survey of the kinematic structure of star-forming galaxies at redshift z ∼ 2 − 3 using Keck/OSIRIS integral field spectroscopy. Our sample is comprised of 12 galaxies between redshifts z ∼ 2.0 and 2.5 and one galaxy at z ∼ 3.3 which are well detected in either Hα or [O iii] emission. These galaxies are generally representative of the mean stellar mass o...

Evolution of Star Forming and Active Galaxies in Nearby Clusters

We have used optical spectroscopy to investigate the active galaxy populations in a sample of 20 nearby Abell clusters. The targets were identified on the basis of 1.4 GHz radio emission, which identifies them as either AGN or galaxies forming stars at rates comparable to or greater than that of the Milky Way. The spectra were used to characterize the galaxies via their emission and absorption ...

Ubiquitous Water Masers in Nearby Star-forming Galaxies

We report the detection of water maser emission from four nearby galaxies hosting ultradense H II (UDHII) regions, He 2-10, the Antennae galaxies (NGC 4038/4039), NGC 4214, and NGC 5253, with the Green Bank Telescope. Our detection rate is 100%, and all of these H2O “kilomasers” (LH2O < 10 L⊙) are located toward regions of known star formation as traced by UDHII regions and bright 24 μm emissio...

An Integrated Spectrophotometric Survey of Nearby Star-Forming Galaxies

We present integrated optical spectrophotometry for a sample of 417 nearby galaxies. Our observations consist of spatially integrated, S/N = 10− 100 spectroscopy between 3600 and 6900 Å at ∼ 8 Å FWHM resolution. In addition, we present nuclear (2. 5 × 2. 5) spectroscopy for 153 of these objects. Our sample targets a diverse range of galaxy types, including starbursts, peculiar galaxies, interac...

Star formation and dust extinction in nearby star forming and starburst galaxies

We study the star formation rate and dust extinction properties of a sample of nearby star forming galaxies as derived from Hα and UV (∼ 2000 Å) observations and we compare them to those of a sample of starburst galaxies. The dust extinction in Hα is estimated from the Balmer decrement and the extinction in UV using the FIR to UV flux ratio or the attenuation law for starburst galaxies of Calze...
